Professional Practice within intercultural and global contexts

A most common aspect of a workplace in Australia is the diverseness of the community with individual having different cultural backgrounds. It is very important co-operation among the individuals in a working team from diverse cultures are proportionate to the successful execution of each tasks. So being immune to a multicultural group to work together is a vital challenge for an engineer.

During my internship at Sonder Design PTY LTD, I worked in a team that consisted of local Australian as well as other foreign individuals from China, Myanmar, Dubai, Singapore, Pakistan and Hong Kong. In addition to that my cultural background as a Bangladeshi individual extended the diverseness of the team. Though I became familiar with regular jargons of local Australian culture for living in Australia for last 4 years, I discovered culture here in professional spectrum expands a bit over it. Besides I had learned a lot from my Asian and Arab colleagues about their culture as I presented mine to them. In these experiences I came to realise we built a professional environment while bonding by acknowledging and celebrating our cultural differences.

In these three months, I have come to learn bliss of working in a multi-cultural environment. The experiences have also taught me how to interact and bond with colleagues from different cultural background while maintaining professional protocols.
